The Regine Sixt Kinderhilfe funded a complete restoration of the nursery playground at Talitha Kumi Education Centre in Beit Jala near Bethlehem.
In 2012, Regine Sixt, together with then-German President Christian Wulff, visited the Talitha Kumi Education Centre in Beit Jala near Bethlehem.
The institution, which is supported by Berliner Missionswerk, includes a nursery, a top-notch primary and secondary school, a hotel industry school, a girls' boarding house, and a large guest house. It provides a safe place for Palestinian girls and boys to study in what is otherwise a conflict-heavy environment.
Regine Sixt immediately indicated her desire to support this wonderful project with her Drying Little Tears initiative. However, due to a lengthy reorganisation of the centre's staff, it was some time until a suitable project could be set up.In this case, a complete overhaul of the nursery's playground was requested. Once that was decided, things moved at a record pace. Since Mrs Sixt's greatest love is for the littlest of the little ones, the foundation board quickly approved the budget for this project at the beginning of March this year. The work was able to start immediately and was completed in short order.
The nursery provides play and learning for 120 girls and boys ages three to six organised into peer groups by age. This wonderful playground gives the children at Talitha Kumi plenty of safe space to play freely.
