The Regine Sixt Children´s Aid Foundation supported in cooperation with "Bild hilft e.V.-Ein Herz für Kinder" the construction of a kindergarten including a preschool in Mtwara.
In the growing port city of Mtwara (southern Tanzania) a kindergarten including a preschool was built on the property of the Missionary Benedictines - the Preprimary School Montessori. Initiator of this project is the Benedictine nun Dr. Raphaela, who has been dedicated to caring for sick children in Tanzania for many years.
There, up to 160 Muslim and Christian children aged between 2 to 6 can learn together and the early childhood phase of development is used effectively, particularly to learn English. This is of great importance, since the transition to secondary school (high school or college) is only possible for English-speaking children. The teaching language however is Swahili. The school consists of 4 classrooms, a large yard, playground and school garden, a kitchen, 2 storage rooms, a staff room and a meeting room.
The St. Michael Education Center was officially blessed and opened by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Gabriel Mmole, Mtwara on February 26, 2013.
Having implemented this project together with Ein Herz für Kinder e.V., we are improving the chances of children and adolecents to receive education and vocational training.
