The Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation is funding in cooperation with Ein Herz für Kinder the reconstruction of a kindergarten and school after the earthquake in January 2010.

In January 2010, the earthquake completely destroyed the "La Garenne" school and kindergarten. With the help of 12 teachers, these two institutions had taken care of 290 children before the earthquake; 70 of these children died in the earthquake.

The project dealt with reconstruction of the school and kindergarten. As no financial help was provided by the state and the parents were no longer able to pay the monthly school fee, BILD hilft e.V., Ein Herz für Kinder and the Regine Sixt Children’s Aid Foundation were contacted with a request for support.

Since the old building had been destroyed beyond repair, a new home was found for both facilities. In addition to the rented property, the construction of a new school pavilion and a protection wall, the buildings were provided with school equipment and material.

In April 2010, construction work had progressed to such an extent that interior furnishing could start. At this point, 100 children were already visiting the facility. A year later, the kindergarten and school resumed normal operations. Currently, 210 children receive excellent care in “La Garenne”.
